On Saturday 9th March, Client Participation Worker Juliette joined members of Nottingham Stand Up to Racism, Poets against Racism and LEAN (Lincoln Embracing all Nations) to spread the message that asylum seekers and refugees are welcome in Newark and Nottinghamshire, and to dispel the myths surrounding those seeking sanctuary in the UK.
A stall was set up in Newark market, and throughout the day we heard poetry readings and songs performed by a number of local groups. We also provided food to the public made by our very own Cafe Narjis and a local Syrian refugee family. The weather was kind to us and the event was a great success with many lovely conversations with locals. Please look out for more welcome events over the coming months and ways you can get involved in welcoming refugees in the area.
We’re pleased that the event was covered in the Newark Advertiser, so check out their story for more details.
